On Tuesday, May 22, 2024, the Del Rio Rotary Club had the pleasure of hosting Dan Chapin and Larry Dotson who provided an insightful presentation on the Department of Defense (DOD) Readiness and Environmental Protection Integration (REPI) Program. The speakers, helped shed light on the vital intersection of national defense, environmental conservation, and community partnership.
Overview of the REPI Program
The REPI Program is a key initiative by the DOD aimed at addressing encroachment and sustainment challenges faced by military installations. Encroachment refers to incompatible land uses and development near military bases, which can impede training and operational capabilities. The REPI Program works by forming collaborative partnerships with private conservation groups, state and local governments, and landowners to preserve critical natural habitats and buffer zones around military facilities.
